Equipment

  • 1 claypot
  • 1 cooking spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp salt ($0.01)
  • tsp soya sauce ($0.13)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil ($0.22)
  • 1 kg chicken thigh or leg ($6.53)
  • 2 medium carrots ($0.04)
  • 2 medium potatoes ($0.60)
  • 2 cloves garlic ($0.03)
  • ½ onion ($0.59)
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil ($0.04)
  • 1 l water (or chicken stock for extra flavour)

Instructions

Preparation (10 min)

  • Season chicken with soya sauce, salt and sesame oil. Mix well and let marinate for 30 min.
  • Cut onion, carrots and potatoes into 1 inch pieces.
  • Remove skin of garlic.

Cooking (45 min)

  • Heat claypot thoroughly.
  • Add cooking oil and allow it to heat up.
  • Add onion and garlic and saute lightly.
  • Add carrots and potatoes and brown surfaces lightly.
  • Add marinated chicken legs and ensure that it touches pan to allow browning. Cover the claypot to prevent splatter and leave it alone for 3 min.
  • Give it a stir and flip the chicken legs allow the other side for brown for 3 min. Cover the claypot.
  • Add water. Cover the claypot and allow it to simmer on low for 30 minutes to an hour.
